Tony Robbins once said: "We are all just looking for the emotions".
I tend to agree with him on that. No, really. Think about it. All this time we're driving ourselves for money, a dream house, cars, fancy toys, a dream partner, the last edition of a state of the art home theatre system, etc. And we think getting all those things are what we actually want and need. It's the physical thing that matters. Is it really?
Picture this, when we were kids, and our parents bought us toys of our dreams, those that we thought about day and night, we suddenly felt we're on top of the world. Or the recent cool trendsetting mobile phone you're considering to buy, and you were thinking: "If only I can get that phone, then it will be great". So you successfully make the money and buy the dream phone. And yes, you feel great. But for how long? A week? A month? And then what? All of a sudden "the greatness" of the dream phone is not that great anymore. The "dream phone" has become "just a phone". Ever felt that way? I know I have.
I can only guess how Bill Gates felt when he made his first billion dollar. Now? I'm not sure he felt the same way he once did (although he personally admit that the financial was never his driving force).
My point is, whatever the things may be, we are after them ONLY to fulfill our emotional needs. We want to have all those things because having them will make us happy, respected, fulfilled or just looked cool. It's not the physical that we actually after, it's the emotional "side-effects", if you don't mind me saying. Of course there's nothing wrong with that (to a certain extent). After all we are emotional beings, aren't we?
